| Introduction | Invitation
The Green Map System (GMS) is a collaborative project with social and environmental impacts and you are invited to volunteer to become organizer/leader of your community's Green Map team, and make a major contribution to your home's long-term sustainability Potential Green Mapmakers should read this whole section, then contact us. Please include the name of the city or area you want to Green Map, and a few words about your background and related skills. Email contact is easiest for us, but mail (PO Box 249, New York, NY 10002 USA) and fax (+1 212 674 6206) will also work. Coming from grassroots groups and non-government organizations, city agencies, youth groups, schools and universities, eco-design and other business entities, people of all ages and backgrounds are stepping forward and volunteering to lead the project. It's a major commitment, as each team decides the best way to organize research, then design and publish their Green Map. We invite you to accept the challenge! The area to be Green Mapped can be a city's political boundaries, a cluster of towns, a bioregional feature such as a watershed, and young people in particular are working at the neighborhood level. We encourage people to start small, as taking on too large an area has proven to be overwhelming for some of our Mapmakers. It is important that local people lead the process, as generally we feel a decentralized, many-voiced approach is the most valid. |
