Mapmaker Resources

Once registered as the official Green Mapmaker for your community, you will be the ongoing liaison between your team and GMS. Generally it's best for us to be in touch with just one person per project. Our website will list you as the leader, along with your group's name and your email address. We are happy to add info on your partners, map publication target date and planned format, your website (if applicable) and process, as these become known. We will also list your events, and share with you the benefits of global publicity and co-promotion.

As the official Mapmaker, you will be sent a disk with the copyrighted Green Map Icons, our Guide and Experience Archives, copies of printed Green Maps, press clips, and easily-photocopied introduction materials about the Green Map System. Designed to help and inspire you, this toolkit will assist you in reaching out and working with teammates, funders, media and all the people who will take part in developing your Green Map. You'll also be given the "top secret" link to the online Guide to Green Mapmaking and many other Mapmaker-only resources.

GMS's introductory materials invite all Mapmakers to sign on to our Listserve, and take part in ongoing discussions and support by email. Through the global (English) or Latin American (Spanish/Portuguese) Listserves, Green Mapmakers have formed a unique global network with a wonderful, collaborative working relationship that reflects the underlying, eco-systematic philosophy of GMS. Many Mapmakers say this global learning network is one of the best parts of being involved! While GMS "seeds" your Green Map, you support others in the network by sharing your resources and encouragement. We try to bridge the language gap together, and encourage people with the same language to communicate often. Every lesson you learn along the way will help someone else move more smoothly and effectively through the process.

We hope participating in this project engages you on several levels, and opens doors to a new, greener view of your hometown.
